The 2012 Western States Surety Conference will be held on Thursday and Friday, April 19-20, 2012, in Seattle, Washington. There will be a pre-conference dinner held on Thursday evening, April 19, 2012 at Taste Restaurant located in the Seattle Art Museum and the program will be presented on Friday, April 20, 2012, at the Four Seasons Hotel Seattle.

The focus of this year’s program will be on issues relevant to the evolution and development of payment bond claims and their handling in the Surety industry. Topics will include: the nuts and bolts of payment bond claims handling; pursuing performance bonds as a “back door” remedy for claimants; surety set-off rights; bid bond and subdivision bond claims update; developments in labor claims where the DLSE or obligee are the claimant; California’s new mechanic’s lien/stop notice/payment bond law; and extra-contractual and “bad faith” liability of sureties in the western states.

The program will feature a number of presentations and panels comprised of surety industry professionals and practitioners. Every attendee will receive a copy of the 2012 Quick Reference Guide to Western States Surety Law, in addition to the written program materials.
